Turkish plane crash kills all 57 on board

link here

Today, Friday, in the early morning a Turkish place crashed in Isparta. All passengers on board were Turks so it could not have been a terrorist attack. The weather was normal but there was a fog. They still do not know why the plane crashed. A plane with the passed away passengers' relatives came to Isparta to see the gone away family members. They mourned greatly.

This a tragedy, at first only 56 were counted by they forgot to count a baby. A baby died! Who knows how many more children died. Children who weren't lucky enough to live up to my age. I am lucky because I have gone to many places by plane, all those times nothing went wrong except maybe once a five minute delay. May those who died rest in peace.

Female suicide bomber wounds 7 GIs, 5 Iraqis

link here

In Iraq there is a was going for years now. Many Iraqis' strap explosives to themselves in order to kill as many US troops as they possibly can. They commit this sacrifice in order to decrease the amount of US militia, and because they do not feel secure with military troops snooping around barging into the homes of many, giving the wives and children a fright as they watch their father being held a gun to. A female suicide bomber is rare but they do expect it to happen more than just a few times. This female suicide bomber had a bomb belt strapped to herself. She wounded seven US soldiers and five Iraqis.

The shouldn't be going on in the first place. Bush just wants a reason to have a war. He should have never even interfered with Iraq. He should have just left Saddam Hussein to rule whatever way he wished. Now there are way more deaths caused by George Bush in a few months than Saddam Hussein could have caused his whole lifetime. This whole was is just a waste of money, and a complete massacre of innocent lives.

British Teacher Faces 40 Lashes for Naming Class Teddy Bear 'Muhammad'

link here

It was an innocent mistake, teachers from that school said. The school was located a mile from the Nile River in central Khartoum. The teacher Gillian Gibbons, 54, was only trying to teach the class. The board of Britain states that teachers must teach about an animal, the animal chosen for her class was a bear. The bear was named Muhammad because 20 out of 23 of the students wanted that name for the stuffed animal. The bear was supposed to be taken care of daily by the students. Each child got to take the teddy bear home on the weekends and describe what they with the toy in a journal. The people there took it very seriously. Since the bear was not sacred or has been through a religious process in order to obtain that name it was considered dangerous. The teacher will either be given 40 lashes or be sentenced to six months of prison. The school was also closed down due to this.

This is being taken too seriously. I mean closing down a school that is taking it too far. It was an innocent mistake anyone can make. If she gets punished that is a true crime. She was only trying to teach, the students didn't know as well so they can't be held responsible. This is a bogus issue.

Justices to take on 2nd Amendment

link here

In the constitution there has been many changes one of those changes is amendment 2. It gives people the right to bear arms. The full text of the Second Amendment says: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The Supreme Court is arguing that this amendment is not constitutional. It is said that this debate may be the toughest to crack.

I believe this debate is going on because in today's world almost everybody has a gun and some people abuse that privilege and end up murdering innocent people. Back then when the amendment was written there weren't any extremely dangerous guns like there are today. For example, back then there were only rifles today there are several chaotic weapons. In my opinion there should be no guns at all for that will only lead to murder, conviction, destruction, and depression.

Cyclone kills hundreds in Bangladesh

link here

Not only were hundreds killed but one thousand and one hundred. A huge cyclone hit the coast of Bangladesh with wind speeds of 150 mph. It is hard for them to have contact with others because power and phone lines are down in most areas. The women in the picture is crying because her hut was destroyed. Hundreds of other huts have also been destroyed. Many people have no place to go. As relief workers were struggling to supply food several had to wait hours for some rice and a dry biscuit. The relief workers were also struggling to supply help to those in need. "Downpours and staggering winds also spawned a water surge four feet high that swept through low-lying areas and some offshore islands, leaving them under water, said Nahid Sultana, an official of the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management."

This is a great devastation for Bangladesh has a big population. The more people to kill for natural disasters. Many have been hit so hard emotionally for many reasons like the loss of a loved one, the loss of their home, even the loss of their hope. My only wish is that those who survived regain their spirits and look to better things.

Grape Powder Blocks Genes Linked To Colon Cancer

link here

What is sporadic colorectal cancer? It is the third most common type of cancer. It kills more than a half a million people worldwide each year, and about 7% of the American population develop this type of cancer. Scientists have conducted an experiment where there were three groups. One of the groups was given 20 milligrams of resveratrol in the form of a pill, they were given this dose daily. Another group was given 120 grams of a grape powder combined with water in the form of a drink which they had drink daily. The last group was given 80 grams of grape powder to drink daily. They all did not succeed in ending colon cancer but the group that was given 80 grams of grape powder to drink daily showed a dramatic reduction. This is an extreme discovery because according to Dr. Holcombe: it suggests that an element in grapes will have the power to block a key intracellular signaling pathway that is involved with the forming of colon cancer, before a tumor develops. Wine- a drink made of grapes and alcohol may also abolish the development of colon cancer. In a study 499 colorectal cancer patients they found that a modest amount of wine before the development of this cancer ameliorated the outcome of survival among the patients whose ancestry had a history of colorectal cancer.

This is a great discovery because there are many people in the world with colon cancer and now that we know that grapes help to prevent this, many lives would and will be saved. My mom said that drinking wine was actually healthy, in fact the Romans use to drink plenty of wine and they were extremely healthy. At first I didn't believe her I thought it was just an excuse for her to drink red wine. Now that I know for sure that a moderate consumption of wine is actually I urged her to keep drinking but not to the point where she gets drunk.

An Army of Ocean Robots

link here

About 3000 robots were dropped into the ocean by a large group of oceanographers. These robots are called Argo floats. They are each about 5ft high. They are programmed to collect data about the ocean's temperature, salinity and pressure. After doing this they go back up to surface and send the information they collected to via satellite to control centers in the U.S. and France. This will give scientists an idea of how global warming is affecting the oceans.

I think this is a pretty good idea. Not only might it be able to warn us when a tsunami comes but it will help us better understand the damage global warming is causing the oceans. My only concerns is that is might mess with wildlife in the oceans, or not work as planned.

Powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocks Chile

link here

In Chile a 7.7 earthquake struck at around 10:40 a.m. Due to this many power lines fell and crashed into several houses. Also many roads were shut down. There were no reported injuries. This quake was also felt in neighboring countries: Bolivia and Peru. It was 36.7 miles deep. It was apparently long according to a witness. Although nobody got hurt much damage was caused.

In my opinion, the earthquake was very harsh, very deep, and quite long. It was extremely lucky that nobody got hurt physically. Most likely they were injured emotionally. I am glad that since nobody got hurt my family in Bolivia is okay.

Increasing Demand for Cheap Coal

link here

Coal used to be the same price as oil but now the price of oil has gone up and the price of coal has gone down. For $47 you could get a ton of coal. Europe is paying $50 to have it shipped across the Atlantic ocean. The use of coal across the world has gone up 27%. Coal is a cheap fuel that is dangerous to the earth itself. It one of the largest contributors to global warming. The U.S. Department of Energy says that in the next five years there will be about 1000 more power plants fueled by coal. This will change the climate drastically all over the world.
